Reflecting on a first win for Greens Racing!

Just reflecting on what has been a brilliant week for Greens Racing!

Having personally always had a passion for racing, at the beginning of last year, it didn’t take much persuasion to set up my own racing syndicate. Having said that, I had no idea where to even start!

In February, having been to the sales, Justin came home with a little bay colt by Coulsty, a first season sire, who in the grand scheme of things, cost very little money. I fell in love with him the minute he walked into the yard, at this point he was a fluffy little baby, with a kind heart and a tonne of character!

From that moment on, he settled in well with us at Bulchins Farm, and later in the year he began to be backed and pre-trained ready to go into racing. He was relatively straightforward throughout, although not without a few quirks including a pretty scary rear when he was feeling fresh and well! At this point I began marketing the syndicate, and having decided the colt was going to go into training with David Menuisier, it was well received and shares were soon selling well.

Having finished his initial education at Bulchins Farm, in January 2020 he headed off to Coombelands Racing Stables, Pulborough and began training with David. It wasn’t long before the syndicate members had decided on his name STAY COUL, which has proved to suit him right down to the ground! His racing his debut in August could be described in many ways, but ultimately underwhelming with a lot to work on! His second run showed a huge improvement and we were all delighted with him finishing 4th.

Having run 4 times this season, if anyone had told me back in February last year that I’d have a winner in my first year of running this syndicate I wouldn’t have believed them, let alone let myself dream that it could even happen! Yet, last Tuesday in the 1.35 at Leicester, mine and all the syndicate members dreams became a reality when Stay Coul won impressively by 2 and 3/4 lengths. Stay Coul has surpassed any expectations that I had, and has truly made a pretty strange year so much better! We are all so excited to see what happens next in his chapter...

I owe a huge thank you to everyone who has supported my first year of Greens Racing including Justin who picked the horse (despite his not so reassuring words on Tuesday that Stay Coul wouldn’t even beat the ambulance home...), David Menuisier and his team for doing such a great job with his training, Heather Stevens who totally adores him and looks after him as if he were her own and last but not least all his fabulous owners involved in the syndicate.

On another note, we have been busy at Newmarket Sales this week and have purchased another lovely bay yearling colt by Ardad! Details of him to follow...
